This is possibly the hotel with the very best location in St Petersburg: just off Nevsky Prospekt and on one of the prettiest canals in the city – you couldn’t be better placed to enjoy the sights and diversions of the city.

Opening in April 2011, the Friends on Griboyedov Hostel has retained the uniqueness of our other hostels despite its large size – here could sleep up to 120 people! The hotel is in a peaceful courtyard on the embankment of the Griboyedov Canal. One minute you’re on bustling Nevsky Prospekt with its crowds, cafes and shops and the next you’re in an oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The rooms available include ones with superb canal views, from where you can see the magnificent Kazan Cathedral rising above the city and the ones which have their own bathroom facilities.

In designing our hotel, we carefully considered how to make it feel more like a home where our friends can gather, rather than just a hotel. We therefore offer a range of comfortable private and dorm rooms, clean bed linens, free wireless Imternet, free national and international phone calls, washing machines, an iron, fully equipped kitchen, free tea and more. We even provide postcards, envelopes and stamps for you to send to your friends back home. And if there’s a rainy day during your visit, you can play one of our many board games, borrow a book from our library, or – more pragmatically – take one of our guest umbrellas and continue to see the city despite the bad weather. We also rent out bikes, which are a fantastic way to see this enormous city without wearing yourself out!

Our staff are here to help you make the most of your stay, whether it’s advising you about the best local restaurants and bars, telling you what sights are worth seeing, calling you a taxi or telling you about various events that non-Russian speakers might not ordinarily have access to. We encourage all our guests to leave messages on our pin board with their impressions of Petersburg and their personal recommendations for other travellers, and equally, to sign our guest book, which makes for very popular reading with our new arrivals!

So hurry up and come to stay with us – we’re looking forward to welcoming you!

It was the perfect place to be in the middle of the city. Actually no need to use public transportation to go to the city center. Staff is great, even after lots of questions :) we were travelling with a big group of singers and there were not problem with that. Staff felt also really happy after we won the competition and made us feel like a stars :) (making picture with us even) Traffic on the weekends are CRAZY so if you like peace and quiet you should choose room away from the main street, but with that you lose view to Kazan church but solution for that is to go outside ;)
